Blanket Brigade UK

‘making the world a warmer place, one blanket at a time.’

About the Project:

Is an extension of the original Blanket Brigade project that was started in San Francisco, CA in 2005.

In the Winter of 2005, one of the local news stations did a story about the cold winter season and how it affected the homeless who lived on the streets of San Francisco. The homeless shelters did not have enough room for them all. A young lady, Saylai Mohammadi, took the simple idea of giving a blanket to a needy person into something as phenomenal as the Blanket Brigade.

The BB is usually active in the winter, however in London it is cold almost all year round. This creates the need for constantly providing help to our local homeless people on a more regular basis. Optimally, in the UK there should be monthly drives.

Mission:

  • To help alleviate another human’s suffering.
  • To help each other with UNDERSTANDING and LOVE.
  • To unite people by means of giving.

Accepting:

1-    Blankets

2-    Outerwear

3-    Cash

Collecting:

Blankets are collected from anyone willing to give. Local Mosques will be regular places for pick-ups. Ideally on Fridays, because that is where people come together most.

Other locations will include cafés, and restaurants that will let us leave a leaflet there and we can pick them up from there at the end of each week. Leaflets will also be left at Universities, Colleges and Islamic Schools.

Giving:

Blankets are transported by car to local shelters or areas with high homeless populations and distributed on a first come first serve basis.
